Sen. McCain home in California is in Default??

Sometimes you just have to scratch your head and wonder. According to Newsweek:

When you’re poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. When you’re rich, it’s hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying. It’s a lesson Cindy McCain learned the hard way when NEWSWEEK raised questions about an overdue property-tax bill on a La Jolla, Calif., property owned by a trust that she oversees. Mrs. McCain is a beer heiress with an estimated $100 million fortune and, along with her husband, she owns at least seven properties, including condos in California and Arizona.

Mind you, I bet Sen and Mrs. McCain doesn’t run the day to day operations of the trust, but in an election year I’d imagine that their business would keep track of their bills better.

As per the GOP, if this happened to Mrs. Obama, they’d be all over it. We’d be hearing things like “How can you trust them to be in the White House?!?!” As it is, this is just Odd.

Right wing goes Ape over Sen. Obama NOT wasting taxpayers money

The Right wing goes Ape over Sen. Obama NOT wasting taxpayers money. How’s that work? Sen. McCain flip flops on important issues, tries to illegally opt out of federal funding, and the best the right wing can do is  go Ape S__t over Sen. Obama NOT wasting taxpayers money? Nice! Sen. Obama must be doing something right! Hope he keeps it up!

Just Shocking. Sen. McCain flip flops on another issue

Sen. McCain flip flops on another issue. I guess he figured out which way he thinks the wind blows and changed his position, again. So, let’s see: He was against Torture and then for it, (and when asked about America torturing people, he got confused…) Now he was against indefinite detention and now is for it. Me, oddly, I believe in the rule of law and am against indefinite detention without charges and no right of appeal.

NBC’s Tim Russert dead at 58

1st saw this on Gothamist.com and it was a shocking headline to read. IMO, 58 is young and his sudden death is quite a shame and very sad.

I occasionally thought his panel were un-balanced and maybe he did not ask what I considered good questions, but I found his presentation to be professional and friendly. I remember seeing him on The Daily Show and he seemed like a man who knew how to relax and enjoy life.

Too many people in the News Media take themselves too seriously. Tim Russert wasn’t one of them and will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.

President Putin of GERMANY?!?

I have to say, Sen. John McCain is beginning to scare me. BTW, Vladamir Putin is NOT the president of Germany.

US Supreme Court backs Guantánamo prisoners’ right to appeal

Apparently the Constitution isn’t dead just yet. From the AP:

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts.

How Shocking, Chief Justice John Roberts , Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas dissented. Chief Justice John Roberts criticized his colleagues for striking down what he called “the most generous set of procedural protections ever afforded aliens detained by this country as enemy combatants.

Apparently, our Chief Justice is cool with people being locked up indefinitely with no charges and no right to appeal. I’m hardly surprised that Justice Scalia would vote that way, but I’m glad Justice Roberts and Justice Alito are showing their true colors. I bet they swing the other way when a Democrat is the President.

I imagine the Radical Right Wing is going off on the majority of the Justices saying things like, they hate America, they support Terrorists, etc.

From the Article:

The court said not only that the detainees have rights under the Constitution, but that the system the administration has put in place to classify them as enemy combatants and review those decisions is inadequate.

The administration had argued first that the detainees have no rights. But it also contended that the classification and review process was a sufficient substitute for the civilian court hearings that the detainees seek.

How UnAmerican is that?? The United States Government arguing that people have No Rights? IMO, this was the correct decision. No one should be locked away with no right of appeal, regardless if they are “Enemy Combatants” or not.

Can you imagine what would have been the outcome if Pres. G.W. Bush seated just one more Justice?’

MG Shin Musha Gundam

MG Shin MushaAs many people know, one of my hobbies is assembling Bandai Gundam Models. Over at Ngee Khiong’s blog, he found images from someone who got it and assembled it already.

I have to say, it’s an over the top model, and I Soooooo want one!
😉

I’m resisting on account of my having quite a queue of models to build. Currently I’m working on a a Bandai MG RX-78-2 Gundam. I’m not sure if I’ll paint it, but it should be fun in either case.

Update: Dalong.net has one already. Can’t wait for him to finish it. The images of the Instructions make it look pretty interesting.

House painting

This week, my wife and I took time off to paint our dining room and bedroom. After painting our living room last year, we learned a few things when painting our house:

  1. Pick your paint carefully. We’re using Behr paint from home depot.
  2. Seriously, use primer. I bought our house in the end of 2002 and near as I can tell, the previous owner never did any painting since he purchased it in 1997. As a result, when we painted our living room without any primer, the paint bubbled up and I spent a lot of time fixing it. This time around, we are putting primer on every surface including the ceiling. Since we did that no crazy paint bubbles.
  3. Get canvas tarp for the floor. It absorbs spilled paint and prevents you from tracking it into the rest of the house. For the furniture, buy cheap plastic tarp and cover it all up from top to bottom.
  4. Use the basement sink for cleaning the brushes.

So far, after a day and a half or painting, we’ve painted most of our dining room.

BTW: Normally, I’d take pictures of what I’m doing for Flickr, but as paint and Nikon D80 does not mix, no WIP photos.

Stupid Juvenile Pranks

Once again, I’m just amazed at the sheer stupidness demonstrated by some kids. I just saw a story on the Today show where 2 Idiots threw a drink at a worker in a drive thru window and posted it on Youtube. Apparently, it’s part of a “Internet Prank” and lots of kids are currently doing this. I’m not linking to the story or the video as these two Idiots get enough attention.

When did victimizing people become Funny?

You have idiot kids driving cars that Mommy and Daddy bought them victimizing fast food workers. I’d hazard a guess that these idiots never worked a hard job in their life. Fortunately, the victim found their video on the Internet and had them arrested. The punishment? Community Service and they had to make an apology video on Youtube. I’d bet the ONLY lesson they learned was Not to get caught.

Best part of the story: These Idiots lawyer just blamed Youtube as the problem stating that it’s Youtube’s responsibility to keep video’s like that off the web.

What about their parents? If I ever did anything like that, the police would have come for my parents for killing me…
