Sen. Obama’s Campaign responds to Sen. McCain

Recently, the McCain campaign has released two attack advertisements and made statements that were outright false (And the media actually came out and caught it!). I was afraid that the Obama campaign would do a John Kerry and not respond in a meaningful time frame.

Wednesday night, the Obama campaign released a response advertisement appropriately entitled “The Low Road“. This is a good sign as too many people believe the nonsense put out by these McCain ads.

So much for Sen. McCain’s promise of a clean campaign.

AP: FDA declares it’s OK to eat tomatoes again

Wow, I’m reassured. I’m soooo glad the FDA is on the case. They still don’t know the source of the Salmonella outbreak…

Granted, finding the source is quite a challenge, but how many Ecoli and Salmonella outbreaks will it take for the Federal Gov’t to get a proper number of inspectors in the FDA and the USDA?

This administration takes the stand that the public should just trust business.  The only thing I trust business for is that they will try their best to make money, nothing more.

The NRA is going after Disney World?!?

Meant to post this last week but been busy: The NRA is going after Disney World. Just “Wow“. Apparently the NRA is upset that Disney Employees can’t bring Guns on Disney Property…

Sen. McCain home in California is in Default??

Sometimes you just have to scratch your head and wonder. According to Newsweek:

When you’re poor, it can be hard to pay the bills. When you’re rich, it’s hard to keep track of all the bills that need paying. It’s a lesson Cindy McCain learned the hard way when NEWSWEEK raised questions about an overdue property-tax bill on a La Jolla, Calif., property owned by a trust that she oversees. Mrs. McCain is a beer heiress with an estimated $100 million fortune and, along with her husband, she owns at least seven properties, including condos in California and Arizona.

Mind you, I bet Sen and Mrs. McCain doesn’t run the day to day operations of the trust, but in an election year I’d imagine that their business would keep track of their bills better.

As per the GOP, if this happened to Mrs. Obama, they’d be all over it. We’d be hearing things like “How can you trust them to be in the White House?!?!” As it is, this is just Odd.

Right wing goes Ape over Sen. Obama NOT wasting taxpayers money

The Right wing goes Ape over Sen. Obama NOT wasting taxpayers money. How’s that work? Sen. McCain flip flops on important issues, tries to illegally opt out of federal funding, and the best the right wing can do is  go Ape S__t over Sen. Obama NOT wasting taxpayers money? Nice! Sen. Obama must be doing something right! Hope he keeps it up!

Just Shocking. Sen. McCain flip flops on another issue

Sen. McCain flip flops on another issue. I guess he figured out which way he thinks the wind blows and changed his position, again. So, let’s see: He was against Torture and then for it, (and when asked about America torturing people, he got confused…) Now he was against indefinite detention and now is for it. Me, oddly, I believe in the rule of law and am against indefinite detention without charges and no right of appeal.

NBC’s Tim Russert dead at 58

1st saw this on Gothamist.com and it was a shocking headline to read. IMO, 58 is young and his sudden death is quite a shame and very sad.

I occasionally thought his panel were un-balanced and maybe he did not ask what I considered good questions, but I found his presentation to be professional and friendly. I remember seeing him on The Daily Show and he seemed like a man who knew how to relax and enjoy life.

Too many people in the News Media take themselves too seriously. Tim Russert wasn’t one of them and will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.

President Putin of GERMANY?!?

I have to say, Sen. John McCain is beginning to scare me. BTW, Vladamir Putin is NOT the president of Germany.

US Supreme Court backs Guantánamo prisoners’ right to appeal

Apparently the Constitution isn’t dead just yet. From the AP:

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts.

How Shocking, Chief Justice John Roberts , Justices Samuel Alito, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas dissented. Chief Justice John Roberts criticized his colleagues for striking down what he called “the most generous set of procedural protections ever afforded aliens detained by this country as enemy combatants.

Apparently, our Chief Justice is cool with people being locked up indefinitely with no charges and no right to appeal. I’m hardly surprised that Justice Scalia would vote that way, but I’m glad Justice Roberts and Justice Alito are showing their true colors. I bet they swing the other way when a Democrat is the President.

I imagine the Radical Right Wing is going off on the majority of the Justices saying things like, they hate America, they support Terrorists, etc.

From the Article:

The court said not only that the detainees have rights under the Constitution, but that the system the administration has put in place to classify them as enemy combatants and review those decisions is inadequate.

The administration had argued first that the detainees have no rights. But it also contended that the classification and review process was a sufficient substitute for the civilian court hearings that the detainees seek.

How UnAmerican is that?? The United States Government arguing that people have No Rights? IMO, this was the correct decision. No one should be locked away with no right of appeal, regardless if they are “Enemy Combatants” or not.

Can you imagine what would have been the outcome if Pres. G.W. Bush seated just one more Justice?’

Keith Olbermann Special Comment

[pageview src=”//www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/24798368#24798368″ frameborder=”0″ height=”339″ scrolling=”no” width=”100%”]

In the past, I’ve written how Sen. Clinton was really close to losing my vote and I’m repulsed that she used Osama Bin Laden (9 seconds in) in her GOP political advertisement. Now, Sen. Clinton latest “gaffe” is to invoke the memory of Sen. Kennedy’s assassination in some sort of rationalization for her to stay in the race.

Mind you, I don’t care if she’s In or Out of the race, but after Keith Olbermann’s Special Comment on the matter, I think it’s safe to say she’s done.

I’m glad she stopped that “Gas Holiday” nonsense. Ignoring the legal hurdles of getting the Oil companies to eat it or the deficit it would contribute to if the Gov’t just stopped collecting it for a time, it won’t solve anything in the long term.
